Free to Choose

Free to Choose

Imagine that you are faced with choosing between two doors in front of you. Behind Door #1 is the complete unknown; the only way to know what is behind that door is to pass through it. Behind Door #2 is the exit; if you pass through it, you can leave and go on with your day. Which door would you choose?

This is an actual experiment that was performed to determine whether people would choose for themselves the complete unknown (Door #1) or choose to escape having to face the unknown (Door #2). You might think, given our general preference for the known and our fear of the unknown, that the subjects in this experiment would overwhelmingly choose Door #2.

But in the actual experiment, 77% chose Door #1, the unknown. Among those who picked Door #2, many felt that the world is already full of unknown challenges, so they opted for the security of an exit. But many of those who chose Door #1 also acknowledged fear, but felt compelled by a sense of discovery.

What decisions are you facing today? What is holding you back from making the right choices? Remember that whichever door you choose, God will be with you!

Blessings,
Pastor Paul Cook
