Thanksgiving Fullness

Thanksgiving Fullness

Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.” John 6:35

Gobble til you wobble and wear your fat pants, friends! It is time to eat, share, say thanks, watch a parade or a football game on Thanksgiving Day. I often host a Friendsgiving where I serve: turkey and ham sliders, sweet potatoes, cranberry sauce, mashed garlic potatoes, mushroom gruyere tarts, charcuterie, green bean casserole, balsamic glazed roasted carrots and brussels sprouts, rolls, pumpkin cheesecake, and a Dutch apple pie. Sometimes I make macaroni and cheese and deviled eggs with Texas Pete hot sauce. We usually eat until we are stuffed. We unbutton our pants after such a decadent feast! Like clockwork, I still wake up hungry on Friday after a consistently full belly the day before, Thanksgiving Day. I, we, hunger, and thirst even with enough food and water. The spiritual hunger and thirst can only be filled by Jesus. There is not enough self-help, self-care, ambition, or striving that can ever fill us. We need Jesus for that! Thank you, Lord, for giving us the bread of life in Jesus Christ. Happy Thanksgiving!

In Christ,
Pastor Elyse
