God’s Word Stands Forever

God's Word Stands Forever

There have been popular movements within Christian communities throughout history. Some have stood the test of time like small groups and others like clogging to gospel tunes with lyrics that focus on behavior modification that went out of vogue in the early 1990s. As silly as the latter seems, during its heyday it was considered the “in thing.” At one point in Christian history that chanting was a popular music choice. Culture and religion changes or certainly the modes of how certain religion is practiced changes. God’s word will not be destroyed by culture, as some of the faithful might fear. As Methodists we rely on the Wesleyan Quadrilateral (reason, tradition, experience including our culture, and the scriptural text itself) in how we interpret scripture. The Holy Spirit breathes anew old, familiar, Bible stories making scriptures completely relevant today. Let some of the beautiful but fleeting “blooming” parts of the faith pass away and rely instead on the Word of God that stands forever.
